How to Get Shiny Curls

· Comments

Having curly hair doesn’t mean that you’re not entitled to glossy locks. Keeping reading for our secrets for shiny curls!

Squish to Condish

This easy conditioning trick hydrates hair and helps your curls reform after washing. In the shower, apply a generous amount of Nourish Rinse-Out Conditioner to very wet hair. Let the conditioner sit in your hair for a couple of minutes while it works its magic.
To rinse, first flip your head forward that your curls go over your forehead. As you rinse, cup your hands to create pools of water and conditioner. Dip sections of your curls into your cupped hands and scrunch (or “squish”) all the way up to your scalp. Repeat several times for each section of hair.
You can also use this method to more effectively apply curl-defining styling products to wet hair!

Rinse with Cold Water

When washing your hair, always rinse with cold water. Hair is covered in a protective layer of protein scales called the cuticle. Cold water helps the scales of the cuticle to lie flat, thus reflecting light and making hair look shinier.

Don’t Use Cotton Towels

Another trick to keep that cuticle from getting ruffled is to ditch your bath towel. Traditional cotton towels rough up the surface of the hair, which makes it look dull. Keep your cuticles lying flat by squeezing out extra moisture from hair using an old t-shirt or microfiber towel.

Establish a Nighttime Hair Routine

You have a nighttime skin care routine, so why not have one for your hair as well? Before bed each night, apply a hair-friendly oil like coconut oil to your ends. Then style hair in a protective style like braids or a pineapple.

Finally, it’s time to hit the sack! We recommend swapping your cotton pillowcase for a satin or silk pillowcase. These slippery fabrics prevent your hair from tangling and drying out overnight.

If you don’t want to change your pillowcase, you can also wrap your hair in a silk scarf before bed to keep frizzies from forming overnight.
