Curly Hair Tips For Fall
Changing leaves, chunky sweaters, chai and pumpkin spice… it must be fall!
This can feel like good news for your hair in some ways -- less humidity means less frizz, right? Not exactly…. fall also brings cold, dry air that can wreak havoc on your hair if you don't change up your hair care routine. Keep a few key things in mind, and you'll be rocking your luscious curls all autumn long.
Hydration Is A Curl's Best Friend!
We're not only faced with cold air outside, we also turn up the heat inside and there isn't much moisture to be found anywhere. Your hair will dry out unless you take steps to prevent it. It's best to change up your hair care early in the season to make sure it's especially heavy on hydration.
There are a few simple changes you can make to maximize moisture. You can start by using a hair mask or a leave-in conditioner at least once a week. Try Curl Friends Replenish Leave In Conditioner. Apply it on fairly wet hair and go ahead and use a liberal amount if your hair is prone to damage. You can use it under any other styling products. Think about picking up a hair oil too, use it especially on the ends.
It's a really good idea to back off the shampoo over the dry months, which can be drying for your hair and scalp. Try using a good co-wash instead, or even make your own. There are lots of DIY co-wash recipes online. Try to shampoo your hair less frequently too. Instead, use a curl refresher on days 2 or 3 like Curl Friends Texturizing Mist. When you do have a regular shampoo and conditioner day, don't rinse your conditioner all the way out. Go ahead and leave some in your hair to lock in moisture, especially on the ends.
Protect Your Hair From Static and Split Ends!
With dry hair you can get split ends faster … always use a good heat protectant when styling, and apply a nice serum or gloss to lock in moisture and keep frizz away.
Stay ahead of splits by getting your hair trimmed more frequently over fall and winter months. Worried about going too short? Just have them take a little bit off the ends. It's worth it to prevent those fraying ends that make your hair look dry and unmanageable.
When you're out and about especially in cold or windy weather, bring along sample-sized gloss or oil especially when you're out in wind or wearing a hat that you put on and take off throughout the day. This can smooth down hair when you're on the go, protect it from the elements and add a bit of shine too.
