3 Natural, DIY Hair Masks

Posted on April 01 2016

DIY beauty is all the rage these days and for good reason. For starters, you get to control the ingredients that go into your products! Also, it’s cheaper than buying products from the store, which is a big bonus. These 3 DIY, natural hair masks are great for all hair types, so feel free to share with your non-curly haired friends too!

The Ultimate Moisturizing Hair Mask

The Ultimate Moisturizing Hair Mask

½ avocado, ½ banana and 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  1. Combine avocado and banana by mashing together in a bowl, then add the olive oil.
  2. Massage the mask into your scalp and pull through your hair. Get it all the way to the ends!
  3. Leave the mask on your hair for at least 30 minutes. Feel free to leave on for up to a full hour if you have the time.
  4. Rinse and shampoo out in the shower.

Besides smelling amazing, this mask works wonders on your hair and scalp. We often forget about the health of our scalp, which can be dry or irritated from the hair care products we use. The avocado will help to moisturize the scalp, bananas will protect hair against environmental damage, and the olive oil will leave your hair frizz free.

Coconut Powers

Coconut Powers

¼ cup of coconut oil

  1. Melt the coconut oil in a pan. The oil will liquefy very quickly, so be careful not to let it burn!
  2. Massage the warm oil into your scalp and pull through your hair. Again, make sure you get it all the way through to the ends!
  3. Leave the oil on your hair for 30 minutes to an hour.
  4. Rinse and shampoo out in the shower.

Every foodie and beauty guru is talking about the magical powers of coconut oil... and we are totally on board! Coconut oil is super versatile and can be used in everything from food to beauty care products. Coconut oil is full of healthy fats and other nutrient boosting properties, which will leave your hair shiny and moisturized!

Lemony Greatness

Lemony Greatness

2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 or 2 drops of lavender essential oil

  1. Squeeze lemon into a bowl. Then add olive oil and lavender essential oil and mix.
  2. Massage the lemon mixture into your scalp and pull through your hair.
  3. Leave the mask on your hair for 30 minutes to an hour.
  4. Rinse and shampoo out.

We should rename this mask, spring in a bowl! It's great for anyone with dandruff or a flaky, dry scalp. The lemon and lavender work to eliminate dryness, while the olive oil leaves your hair smooth and frizz free.

Hair masks are best when used once or every other week, depending on the natural oiliness of your hair.
